A garbage car ran over and killed a 50-year-old man in the Alegre neighborhood, in Bragança, northeast of Pará, last Friday night (January 7th). According to information from the police, the driver of the vehicle did not see the man when making a maneuver and ended up running over him. The victim had his skull crushed and lost a lot of brain mass, dying instantly. The truck driver presented himself to the Civil Police Station, where he testified and was later released.
The victim, a native of Maranhão, lived in the Alegre neighborhood, about 300 meters from where the accident happened. At around 19:00, he was on the corner of Avenida Duque de Caxias and Dr. Gutierrez lane, when the truck driver tried to maneuver and put the car in reverse, without noticing that the victim was behind the vehicle.
According to witnesses, the beeper was working normally, but the victim would be deaf and also have a shorter leg, which forced him to walk with the help of crutches. Because of this, he would not have noticed the approaching of the truck, nor would he have been able to leave the vehicle’s route in time.
The truck passed over the man’s head and chest, causing a total crush of his skull. The Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) was called upon by residents, but the victim died instantly, with no chance of being rescued.
