Antony Campagnolli Matos, 22, disappeared on December 12, and was found dead in Vila Penteado the following day, after being shot 22 times, most of them in the head. Videos recorded by security cameras and taken by the criminals themselves show the victim being approached by a group of people in Jardim Peri, and then crying.
Antony was already being investigated by the police for sexually harassing women in the region. There was even a court arrest warrant against him. But, according to the police, local drug dealers decided to murder Antony for that reason.
Neighborhood criminals kidnapped Antony and ‘judged’ him. In criminal jargon, “criminal court” is the name given to a meeting to decide whether a community resident or gang member should be punished for something he has done to someone. In Antony’s case, the police reported that he was using his own motorcycle to commit abuses against women. Videos recorded by security cameras prove this.
In a footage taken in November, a woman is surprised by the harasser, who approaches her with his pants unbuttoned. The woman doesn’t notice, thinks it’s a robbery and tries to hand over the cell phone, but the motorcyclist refuses the device. The girl screams for help, and he runs away.
The footage showing Antony’s motorcycle and face circulated on social networks, drawing the attention of drug dealers in the neighborhood, who decided to kill the young man. For the investigator in the case, the murder of Antony, regardless of the crime of sexual harassment he committed, who had the legal right to judge the boy was the São Paulo Justice and not organized crime.
